Rafael Nadal reached the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters for the 15th time after easing past Grigor Dimitrov, and he was joined in the last eight by top seed Novak DJokovic.
Nadal, an 11-time champion at the event, won 6-4 6-1 to set up a last eight meeting with Argentina's Guido Pella, who beat Marco Cecchinato 6-4 4-6 6-4.
Nadal, who was last defeated in Monte Carlo by Novak Djokovic in the 2015 semi-finals, said he was pleased with his performances this week.
The Spaniard told a press conference: "I am happy with the way I'm playing. The first two rounds I played more than well enough to win.
"The first matches after an injury, it's always a tough thing to come back. At the same time we're on clay for the first time in a year, so it's a good start for me."
Top seed Djokovic booked his place in his ninth career quarter-final in Monte Carlo as he brushed aside American Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-0 in just 68 minutes.
Next up for the Serb will be 10th seed Daniil Medvedev who defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-2 1-6 6-4 to reach the biggest quarter-final of his career.
Dusan Lajovic upset third seed Dominic Thiem 6-3 6-3 to set up a meeting with Italian qualifier Lorenzo Sonego, whose dream run continued as he beat Britain's Cameron Norrie 6-2 7-5.
Fabio Fognini also scored an upset as he beat Alexander Zverev 7-6(6) 6-1 and he will take on ninth seed Borna Coric, who was a 6-4 6-2 winner over Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France.
