Novak Djokovic to play in Aegon International at Eastbourne

Novak Djokovic is to play in next week's Aegon International in Eastbourne.

The world number four has accepted a wild card into the pre-Wimbledon tournament which starts on Sunday.

The Serb usually snubs an appearance at any of the ATP tournaments the week before Wimbledon, opting instead to play in The Boodles exhibition event in Buckinghamshire. The last official tournament he played between the French Open at Wimbledon was in 2010 when he appeared at Queen's Club.

However, this year, during which he has struggled to produce his best form, he will head to East Sussex where he will be the top seed.

“This will be my first trip to Eastbourne, I have heard great things about the tournament,” said the 12-time Grand Slam champion. “I am looking forward to fine-tuning my grasscourt game there ahead of Wimbledon.”

Djokovic is a three-time winner of Wimbledon but he is well behind defending champion Andy Murray and Roger Federer in the betting this time around after his disappointing results in the first half of the season.

Gael Monfils, John Isner and Steve Johnson - plus Britons Kyle Edmund and Aljaz Bedene - are among the other players who will be in attendance at Devonshire Park.

The women's draw has an even stronger field, one which includes world number one Angelique Kerber, Karolina Pliskova and hometown star Johanna Konta.
