French Open: Rohan Bopanna and Gabriela Dabrowski win the mixed doubles title

Gabriela Dabrowski became the first Canadian woman to win a Grand Slam title as she claimed French Open mixed doubles glory alongside Rohan Bopanna.

The seventh seeds lost the opening set 6-2 against Robert Farah and Anna-Lena Groenefeld and then found themselves a break down in the second as the 2016 Wimbledon runners-up looked on course for victory.

But the Indian-Canadian pair, seeded seventh, fought back to take it 6-2 before prevailing 12-10 on the match tie-break.

Three Canadian men - Sebastien Lareau, Daneil Nestor and Vasek Pospisil - have previously won Grand Slam doubles titles for their country but Dabrowski is the first woman to manage the feat.

Victory was also Bopanna's maiden crown and he becomes the fourth Indian in history behind Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza to win Grand Slams.

Dabrowski told the official Roland Garros website: "It’s very special, it's something that you always dream about as a kid. It's kind of funny, because you never know where the journey is going to take you: singles, doubles, now mixed doubles. I couldn't be more happy. It feels amazing."

Bopanna said: "It’s truly special. As an athlete, when you start playing tennis, you want to win a Grand Slam,” added , who hailed their chemistry on the tennis court.

"When you play with partners regularly at slams, you get to understand each other. I think that helped us also today coming through those close matches. You end up trusting your partner. You know what the strengths of your partner."
