Naomi Broady crashes out in qualifying for Indian Wells

Naomi Broady failed to make it into the main draw for the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after crashing out in qualifying.

The British No 3 was beaten 4-6 6-2 6-3 by the Czech Republic's Tereza Martincova in her first match in Florida.

Broady appeared to be on her way through when she battled through the opening set, taking advantage of some strong serving and a single break to take the lead.

But she would be broken twice in the second set as Martincova levelled the match and then dropped into a 5-1 hole in the decider.

Broady did secure one of the two breaks she needed to get back into the match but Martincova, ranked 165 in the world, served for the match a second time and took her place in the second round, where she will play Mandy Minella.
