Tianjin Open 2018: Britain's Katie Boulter books quarter-final place

Britain's Katie Boulter battled past Barbora Krejcikova to book her place in the quarter-finals of the Tianjin Open.

The 22-year-old triumphed 6-3 1-6 6-4 against the Czech qualifier and set up a meeting with top seed Karolina Pliskova in the final eight.

Unseeded Boulter, who had upset eighth seed Maria Sakkari in the previous round, took an early lead in the opening set, breaking Krejcikova in the second game.

Despite losing the advantage a few games later, she bounced straight back and took the first set in just over half an hour.

The second set was much less straightforward, however, and Boulter lost three service games in a row as her opponent levelled the match.

The pair went on to exchange breaks at the start of the third, and the set remained on even terms until the Brit edged ahead at 5-3 and served out the match.

Top seed Karolina Pliskova eased herself into the quarter-finals of the Tianjin Open on Wednesday with a 6-1 6-2 victory over Polona Hercog.

The Czech, who won her second title of the year in Tokyo last month, was in control throughout and won the first five games of the match.

The second set was slightly tougher for Pliskova, who saved a break point with a drop volley and then sent down an ace to bring up a fourth match point. Another big serve forced a Hercog error to seal the win.

Pliskova won 80 per cent of her first serve points and faced just one break point against her serve, which came in the very last game of the match.

Aryna Sabalenka was also a comfortable winner as she saw off Magda Linette 6-1 6-3 in one hour and 13 minutes.
