ATP Tour: Kyle Edmund through to the second round of the Atlanta Open

A round-up of Tuesday's ATP Tour action as Kyle Edmund booked his place in the second round of the Atlanta Open.

Britain's Kyle Edmund is through to the second round of the Atlanta Open after a straight sets victory over Marcos Baghdatis.

A single break of serve in each set was enough for Edmund to overcome the Cypriot 6-3 7-5 in one hour and 24 minutes.

The 22-year-old will play German Peter Gojowczyk in the next round after he edged to a 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7/5) win over Guido Pella of Argentina.

Sixth seed Donald Young eased to a 6-4 6-2 win over Tim Smyczek, while American wildcard Christopher Eubanks beat compatriot Taylor Fritz 7-6 (7/5) 6-4.

Australia's John Millman recovered from losing the first set to beat Frances Tiafoe 5-7 6-4 7-6 (7/5), as did Nalek Jaziri, who beat Reilly Opelka 5-7 7-6 (16/14) 6-1.

Vasek Pospisil and Dudi Sela also advanced with first-round victories.

Andrey Kuznetsov knocked last year's runner-up Pablo Cuevas out of the German Tennis Championships in Hamburg.

The Russian, who was beaten by Alexandr Dolgopolov last week in the Swedish Open semi-finals, battled back from a set down to overcome the second seed 3-6 7-5 6-4 in two hours and four minutes as Cuevas' lack of match sharpness following a knee injury began to show.

Third seed Karen Khachanov marked his Hamburg debut with a 6-4 6-3 win over German qualifier Rudolf Molleker while wild card Tommy Haas, appearing at his home town tournament for the first time since 2013, was defeated 7-5 6-2 by Nicolas Kicker.

Leonardo Mayer beat Albert Ramos 7-6 (7/3) 3-6 7-6 (7/4) while Fernando Verdasco's match with Jiri Vesely was suspended due to rain tied at one set each after a couple of tie breaks.

In Gstaad, 2013 Swiss Open champion Mikhail Youzhny lost to Moldovan Radu Albot 4-6 7-6 (8/6) 7-5.

Albot came within two points of losing at 6-6 in the second set tie-break but held his nerve to fight back and win in two hours and 52 minutes.

He will now play top seed and 2015 finalist David Goffin in the next round.

Joao Sousa beat Santiago Giraldo 6-3 6-3 while Dolgopolov lost to Thiago Monteiro 7-6 (7/5) 3-6 6-3.
