Evergrande China Championship: Mark Williams to face Ken Doherty after Rod Lawler whitewash


World champion Mark Williams thrashed Rod Lawler 5-0 to set up a clash with Ken Doherty at the Evergrande China Championship.

Wiliams, who beat Doherty in the 2003 world final, made three half-century breaks and one of 102 as he cruised into the next round.

China's number one Ding Junhui beat Lee Walker 5-3 and four-time world champion John Higgins came back from 2-0 down to seal a 5-3 victory against Allan Taylor.

Scotland's Stephen Maguire slipped to a 5-2 defeat to fellow countryman Scott Donaldson and Belgium's defending champion Luca Brecel began the defence of his title by beating Joe O'Connor 5-1.

Fergal O'Brien breezed past Ali Carter 5-1, Neil Robertson won 5-2 against Gerard Greene and Iran's Hossein Vafaei defeated David Gilbert 5-3.
