Coral World Grand Prix snooker results: Neil Robertson beats Joe Perry 5-1; Kyren Wilson beats John Higgins

Neil Robertson maintained his imperious form with a 5-1 demolition of Joe Perry in the quarter-finals of the Coral World Grand Prix in Cheltenham.

Victory at the European Masters and a runner-up finish at last week's German Masters mean Robertson has been kept busy of late but he shows no sign of relenting, another powerful display on Friday afternoon proving much too hot for Perry to handle.

Perry actually started well, a break of 62 allowing him to settle into his work and take the the opening frame, but that would prove to be his only moment of cheer.

Thereafter, it was all one-way traffic, Robertson dominating frame two to level the scores before taking the lead with a run of 86 in a third frame in which Perry was unable to register a single point.

It was the same story in frame four, Robertson compiling a wonderful, tournament-high break of 140 that brought up the Australian's fourth century of the week and saw him to extend his lead to two.

If Perry was now on the back foot, the following frame all but ended his chances, both players having their chances before Robertson held his nerve to land the killer blow and put himself within touching distance of the winning line.

Moments later the 37-year-old had crossed that winning line, frame six proving a one-sided affair that afforded Robertson an early finish ahead of his semi-final with either John Higgins or Kyren Wilson on Saturday night.

Wilson edges dogfight

Kyren Wilson came through a gruelling battle with John Higgins, eventually prevailing 5-4 following a fluctuating deciding frame in which Higgins fluffed a golden opportunity to steal the frame and match after Wilson had himself broken down with victory in sight.

Without finding anything like his best, Higgins led 2-0 having got the better of a couple of scrappy frames that got the match underway but Wilson rallied with a break of 64 to gain a foothold in the match.

Wilson then added a run of 89 to draw level but Higgins again inched in front thanks to a well-compiled response of 56.

Wilson hit straight back once more, a break of 74 getting him back on level terms before frames seven and eight were shared to force a final-frame shootout.

When Wilson got in first and built a healthy lead, Higgins' hopes appeared all over but Wilson then broke down on the cusp of victory, handing the Scot a lifeline, and he looked set to produce one of his trademark clearances until missing a regulation red to middle with the balls at his mercy.

Still, Wilson couldn't quite kill the match off as Higgins played on for snookers, getting two, until the Kettering potter sunk the final brown from distance, allowing him to finally celebrate a notable success in a campaign that hadn't caught fire until this week.
