Joe Perry kicked off his UK Championship campaign in fine style by thumping John Astley 6-0 in York.
Perry was a quarter-finalist 12 months ago and looks set to enjoy another good run this year if his first-round performance is anything to go by.
Having dominated the opening frame, Perry rattled off breaks of 84 and 76 to race into a 3-0 lead before compiling a fabulous 107 in frame four.
The mid-session brought little respite for Astley who wouldn't score another point in the match, Perry making a wonderful total clearance of 143 in frame five before sealing a 6-0 whitewash with a run of 60 in the following frame.
Whitewash victories for Bingham and Fu
In the morning session, two more big names registered whitewashes as English Open hero Stuart Bingham beat veteran James Wattana and Marcu Fu brushed aside Hammad Miah.
Wattana had plenty of chances early in their match but wasn't able to make the most of them and Bingham finished strongly, four breaks of 50+ in the final three frames showing his game to be in good order.
Fu has struggled for his best form so far this season but knocked in a hundred and three breaks over 50 in his straightforward passage to the second round.
