O'Sullivan, making only his third appearance in the quickfire tournament, was back after a five-year gap and eased through by 54-10.
Amine Amiri fell foul of the Shoot Out rules, not once but twice.
Players have to hit a cushion or pot a ball with every shot, but Amiri bizarrely rolled up to the black on two occasions.
Michael Holt took advantage of those ball-in-hand fouls to seal victory 69-38.
