Shaun Murphy progresses at the Scottish Open in Glasgow while Judd Trump and Mark Allen win

Shaun Murphy continued his return to form by booking his place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Open with a 5-0 defeat of Sam Baird in Glasgow.

The former world champion has endured a miserable season so far and suffered another first-round exit at the UK Championship recently.

However, the return of former ally and coach Chris Henry to Murphy's team looks to have paid immediate dividends and he dug really to deep to beat Kyren Wilson in the last 16 on Thursday.

His quarter-final opponent, Baird, had a couple of recent wins over Murphy to call upon but that made little difference here as the gulf between the two players was evident from the moment Baird missed a simple yellow when looking likely to pinch the opening frame.

Murphy settled into cruise control thereafter, a break of 63 in frame two followed by a fabulous run of 122 to close out the match and seal a 5-0 whitewash.

Murphy quipped to Eurosport afterwards: "I'm usually watching these events from home. I've got used to watching you guys on the sofa!

"Working with Chris Henry again has really helped re-focus my brain on what I'm trying to do out there and changing a few of my thought processes has really helped me.

"I must credit Ken Doherty and Fergal O'Brien because they've become my new practice partners since I've moved to Dublin.

"Fergal has you glued to the baulk cushion all day and Ken has you in trouble from the minute you get there and that part of my game has come on as a result."

Burden's golden run ended by relentless Allen

Alfie Burden's superb run in Scotland came to abrupt end as he was thumped 5-0 by Mark Allen in their quarter-final.

Allen has shown no ill-effects from his recent UK Championship exertions this week and readily brushed aside Burden, breaks of 52, 86 and 61 booking his place in the last four.

Three tons for Trump

Recent Northern Ireland Open winner Judd Trump moved one step closer to another title when coming through a tough test against Stuart Carrington.

Trump hit three centuries on the way to his 5-3 victory but had to dig pretty deep when Carrington levelled the scores at 3-3.

Trump had already stroked in breaks of 55, 101 and 117 by this point but still had enough in reserve to win the seventh frame with a run of 64 before closing out the match with a fabulous 119.

Trump will meet Shaun Murphy in the semi-finals on Saturday night.

Day-dream for Wells in Glasgow

Daniel Wells continued his rise through the ranks with an impressive 5-1 defeat of Ryan Day.

Wells was a big underdog coming into this quarter-final match but handled the occasion really well, winning the first two frames before finishing the job with breaks of 76, 54 and 71.

He will play Mark Allen in the last four.
