Georgiou and Jones hit maximum breaks before heading to defeats


Michael Georgiou and Jamie Jones achieved the rare feat of their first maximum breaks at the Paul Hunter Classic in Furth, Germany, on Friday.

30-year-old Georgiou's came during the second frame of his first round-match against German Umut Dikme at the world ranking event, which saw the Cypriot win 4-2, before a 4-3 defeat in the last 64 against Zhang Yong of China.

Welshman Jones secured his to go 2-1 up in his second-round match against compatriot Lee Walker, before going on to lose 4-2. Their 147s, which mean they will each be paid a £10,000 bonus, represent the first of the 2018-19 season and the 140th and 141st in history.

Peter Ebdon is among those to have reached the sixth round in Germany, following a 4-2 victory over Mark King.

There was disappointment for defending champion Michael White however, as he was knocked out in the last 32 by Zhang Anda, going down 4-1 to the Chinese player who will face Harvey Chandler in the next round.

Teenager Jackson Page reached the last 16 of a ranking event for the first time after coming from behind to beat Sam Baird 4-3, hitting a 141 in the decided to come from two down to win.
