A review of the action on day nine of the Betfred World Championship as Barry Hawkins holds a two-frame lead over Kyren Wilson.

Sunday's World Championship scores

  • Barry Hawkins 9-7 Kyren Wilson
  • Ali Carter 7-9 Zhou Yuelong
  • John Higgins 8-8 Stuart Bingham
  • Judd Trump 7-9 Ding Junhui

Hawkins makes strong start against Wilson

Kyren Wilson recovered in the evening session to force his way back into his World Championship second-round clash with Barry Hawkins.

Trailing 6-2 going into the session, Wilson won five of the eight frames to reduce his deficit to 9-7.

Hawkins had recorded four centuries in the space of six frames in the afternoon as he surged into a commanding position.

But Wilson won the opening two frames when they resumed with breaks of 95 and 68.

Hawkins then restored his four-frame advantage but Wilson then sunk breaks of 104 and 131 as he won three of the final four frames.

Carter fights after Yuelong surge

Zhou Yuelong and Ali Carter split the eight frames as the Chinese potter holds a 9-7 lead. Yuelong had led 5-3 after the first session of their second-round clash.

Yuelong took the opening frame with the aid of a break of 67 but Carter won a lengthy second frame to level the scores.

Breaks of 106, 105 and 64 then saw Zhou surge into a four-frame lead but Carter took the last two frames of the session to keep himself firmly in the match.

Carter turned the match on its head in the evening session as he built up a 7-6 lead with three frames remaining but breaks of 65 and 66 saw the Chinese star edge ahead.

He then took the honours in the final frame to hold the advantage over the two-time finalist.

Ding produces Trump turnaround

Ding Junhui had been 5-1 behind at one stage against Judd Trump but managed to turn things around to lead 9-7 in their second round clash.

After clinging to the game by winning the last two frames of the opening session - he then then made breaks of 81, 55 and 60 to establish a two-frame lead going into Monday evening's final session.

Former champions all square

Stuart Bingham and John Higgins have both tasted World Championship success at the Crucible before - and there's nothing to split them after the second session of their match ended with the game evenly poised at 8-8.

2015 winner Bingham hit two century breaks and a run of 70, while three-time winner Higgins responded had breaks of 79 and 74 in a contest of decent quality.
