Romanian Masters: Ali Carter sets up Stuart Bingham clash

Ali Carter held off Stephen Maguire to earn a place in the last four of the Romanian Masters.

Carter whitewashed Mark Williams in the first round, but was made to work hard for a 4-3 victory over in-form Maguire.

After a 136 break had given Carter a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven encounter, Maguire won the following two frames to force a decider.

With Maguire struggling among the balls, Carter held his nerve to progress to a clash with Stuart Bingham, who beat Liang Wenbo 4-1.

Bingham edged past Neil Robertson in the first round and now will be favourite to take advantage of an open top half of the draw to make the final.

In the bottom half of the draw, Ryan Day defeated John Higgins 4-1 to continue his bid for back-to-back titles after winning last week's Gibraltar Open.

Next up for the Welshman is a semi-final clash against Kyren Wilson, who also upset the odds when beating Judd Trump 4-2.
