James Cahill stuns home favourite Liang Wenbo in Yushan World Open

Blackpool's James Cahill stunned home favourite Liang Wenbo with a 5-1 victory at the Hong Rui Ma Yushan World Open in China.

The 22-year-old Cahill only gained a place in the event as one of the leading players from the Q School ranking list, but breaks of 61, 52 and 57 saw off world number 19 Liang.

World champion Mark Williams fired superb breaks of 94 and 77 in the final two frames to beat Germany's Lukas Kleckers 5-4.

Ali Carter, the 2016 World Open champion, celebrated his return to the event with a 5-0 whitewash against Rory McLeod.

Defending champion Ding Junhui battled through 5-4 against former world number three James Wattana, while there were also wins for Neil Robertson, Marco Fu, Stephen Maguire, Robert Milkins, Ryan Day and Ricky Walden.
