Jamie Jones won the final two frames of an epic clash with Shaun Murphy to advance to the second round of the World Snooker Championship.
Jones appeared set to come up short against the former champion, before fighting back to seal a dramatic 10-9 success.
It was a phenomenal performance from the 30-year-old, who trailed 4-1 and 8-5 but twice fought back to level the scores.
Even then, Murphy was a strong favourite when moving within one of the final, but a stunning 124 break from Jones saw him restore parity yet again before he dominated the decider.
The Welshman, who made the quarter-finals on his Crucible debut in 2012, is through to face ninth seed Kyren Wilson for a place in the quarter-finals.
On the other table on Monday afternoon, Ding Junhui fought back from 2-0 down to lead 6-3 against Xiao Guodong.
Allen earns Perry clash
Mark Allen will face Joe Perry in the last 16 of the World Championship having defeated Liam Highfield 10-5 in the first round at the Crucible.
Allen dominated the opening session on Sunday, breaks of 88, 56, 80, 52 and 89 helping him establish a 6-3 overnight lead.
Highfield reduced his arrears to 6-4 with a fine run of 99 in the opening frame of the second session but Allen then peeled off three frames in a row to take him within one of victory.
To his credit, Highfield responded by pulling one back but he was only delaying the inevitable and Allen got in twice in the next frame to wrap up a convincing 10-5 victory.
Allen will play Joe Perry, who beat Mark Selby in the opening round, in the last 16 on Thursday afternoon.
Hawkins edges out Carrington
Barry Hawkins kicked off his campaign by beating Stuart Carrington 10-7.
Hawkins began the concluding session with a 5-3 advantage but Carrington looked sure to level up at 7-7 before he found himself snookered on the green having potted a wonderful yellow to seemingly leave the frame at his mercy.
Hawkins took advantage to go 8-6 up and although Carrington fought hard, it was the 2013 finalist who prevailed just before the stroke of midnight.
It was to prove the perfect birthday present for Hawkins who turned 39 on Monday.
