European Masters snooker results and report: Mark Allen trounces Ken Doherty 4-0; Mark Williams crashes out

Mark Allen became only the sixth player to make four successive centuries in a match as he whitewashed Ken Doherty 5-0 at the European Masters.

Despite a few near misses, Allen went through last season without winning a tournament and on the evidence of his performances so far this week, he looks determined to put that right in Milton Keynes.

Allen kicked off the event with a 5-2 victory over Florian Nuessle and he was even more impressive on Thursday afternoon, reeling off breaks of 134, 101, 141 and 145 to power into the third round.

Elsewhere, there was a notable victory for rookie Peter Devlin who claimed the scalp of three-time world champion Mark Williams having produced a fabulous, match-winning run of 102 in the deciding frame of their tense encounter.

Devlin told World Snooker Tour: “What a time to make a century, in a deciding frame, against someone like that, on a TV table. It is unbelievable.

“It was great to be able to play someone like that so early on. I said from the start I wanted to be chucked in at the deep end.

"I like cameras, I like getting involved in the whole World Snooker Tour. I don’t want to be on the backstage, I want to enjoy it. I want to make my parents proud.”

Mark Selby didn't have to break sweat as he beat Gao Yang 5-0 while there were wins for David Gilbert, Stephen Maguire and Matthew Stevens.
