Produced a promising first effort amidst inexperience when second in 6-runner bumper at Fakenham in February but unable to progress from that faced with a greater emphasis on speed at Wincanton a couple of months later. Considered hurdling debutant nonetheless.
Shaped well when placed in a couple of bumpers 3 months apart last season, paying for trying to match a rival with bags of stamina at Chepstow latterly in January. In top hands so one to keep an eye on now hurdling.
Beaumec De Houelle gelding. Dam (h99), French 2m hurdle winner, half-sister to French hurdler/chaser (17f-2¼m winner) Maheaura. Prolific point winner, including last 5 starts (latest May 2026), though it's worth noting he's only beaten a total of 12 rivals for those victories.
Linda's Lad gelding who proved headstrong first time up when tailed off in a Chepstow bumper back in April. Has switched yards ahead of this hurdling debut but best watched for now.
Hinted at ability in bumpers but looked like one for handicaps in a couple of maiden hurdles last season. Drops back in trip on return.
Well beaten in a couple of Punchestown bumpers for Gordon Elliott early in 2026 but showed some promise for new yard after 6 months off with fourth of 6 in novice hurdle at Chepstow (2m, soft) 3 weeks ago. Can build on it though handicaps are where his future lies.
€37,000 3-y-o, Maxios gelding. Closely related to French 1½m winner Jeejeebhoy. Unplaced only start in Irish points (Mar 22). Betting can guide expectations.
Shaped well when second to a well-bred winner in an Ayr bumper last December and having switched yards for £75,000 after, looked different prospect altogether 3 months on when bolting up in 12-runner bumper at Huntingdon. Big shout on hurdles bow (yard renowned for having them spot on in autumn).
Doyen gelding who showed only greenness when fifth of 8 in bumper at Wincanton (15f, good) back in early-April. Watching brief advised on hurdling debut.
Getaway gelding who made an encouraging start to career when fourth of 7 in steadily-run Market Rasen bumper last December. Worth a market check on hurdling debut.
Jack Hobbs gelding who shaped as if in need of the experience when fifth of 9 in bumper at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft) back in March. Likely outsider on hurdling debut.
Jukebox Jury gelding who showed a bit while shaping as though he'll prove to be a stayer in time when fourth of 10 in bumper at Warwick (2m, good to soft) back in March. In top hands so folly to discount with Sean Bowen retaining the partnership.
£60,000 5-y-o, Jet Away gelding. Dam, poor maiden hurdler, half-sister to fair hurdler/useful chaser (stayed 3m) Whistleinthedark. Won sole start in Irish points (Feb 2026). 1 of 2 for this yard and certainly commands respect.
Made a promising start to his career when second of 13 in bumper at Killarney on debut/sole outing for John Joseph Murphy in July 2025. Proved a total let-down at Warwick 5 months later but bit more like it when fourth of 7 at Southwell when last seen in March. Makes hurdling debut.
Kayf Tara mare who built on her debut promise (for Toby Bulgin) after 9 months off when second of 12 in bumper at Uttoxeter last December. Bit below that level 9 weeks on at Newcastle (had breathing operation in interim) but could easily get back on the up now hurdling.
€36,000 3-y-o, Walk In The Park mare. Half-sister to 4 winners, including useful hurdler/chaser Hester Flemen and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Backinthere. Dam unraced. Successful on 2 of 8 starts in Irish points, runner-up last time (Apr 2026).
Forecasts
Hidden Mountain (11/4), Big John Ollie (9/2), Beau Speed (5/1), Pride Hill (7/1), Sub Editor (10/1), Rainbow Tara (12/1), Half The Battle (12/1), Clonagoose (14/1), Midnight Escape (16/1), Tandy's Bridge (16/1), Martial Law (20/1), Walk The Hall (25/1), Exiguus (50/1), Navy Boy (50/1), Gili Island (50/1), El Dorado (100/1)
Plenty in with chances but HIDDEN MOUNTAIN's bumper form reads well and with his yard renowned for having them spot on in the autumn, he's afforded the vote to make a successful hurdling debut. Big John Ollie looks the pick of Dan Skelton's trio, so could be the one to provide most resistance, with Beau Speed and Pride Hill another couple worth considering, as well.
