Made the frame twice from 3 starts in bumpers and some encouragement in novice/maiden hurdles early this year. However, after 7 months off he struggled sent handicapping when fifth of 6 at Worcester (2m) in September. This longer trip promises to suit, though.

Placed 4 times from 5 starts (all around 3m) in Ireland last year for Brian M. McMahon. Pulled up on seasonal/stable debut, but was in the process of leaving that effort behind when falling 2 out at this course (2¾m) last month, in front and looking the likely winner. Can make amends.

Runner-up only start in Irish points but little impact in maiden/novice hurdles. However, he remains capable of better as he heads into handicaps after 6 months off, so he's one to look out for especially if the market speaks in his favour.

Hadn't shown much on the Flat for this yard, but switched to a visor for return to hurdling he bounced back to form when ½-length second of 9 to No Mean Feat in handicap here (2¼m) 11 days ago. Could be in the mix.

After 5 months off (had a breathing operation), took advantage of his much-reduced mark when winning 9-runner handicap hurdle here (2¼m) 11 days ago by ½ length from Winston's Oath. Merits consideration now that he's up and running.

Long-standing maiden across both codes (stays 1¾m on Flat). Hasn't kicked on from her third on handicap hurdle debut at Stratford (2m) in May, shaping like a non-stayer upped to 3¼m when fourth of 6 at Newton Abbot last time. Others still preferred.

Point winner in May and left behind her first effort back hurdling when rallying for second at Newton Abbot (2¾m) in July. Soon bounced back from a lesser run when third of 8 at the same course 26 days ago, though very much had run of the race.

Remains a maiden but made the frame at Wincanton (2m) in November. Raced 3 times in points in the spring (runner-up first occasion). Has work to do if he's to get off the mark here.

Well held both completed starts in junior hurdles and offered little in a trio of outings on the Flat. Showed a bit more in handicap hurdle at Plumpton (2m) in May, though ultimately finished last of 5. Step up in trip may help at least.

Forecasts

Winston's Oath (7/4), County Champs (3/1), No Mean Feat (7/2), Lord Virginia (13/2), Ghost Jury (11/1), Callero (16/1), One For Rian (25/1), Freddie Fleetfoot (40/1), Blue Siam (80/1)

Verdict

COUNTY CHAMPS was in the process of showing the benefit of his recent stable debut when departing here last month, likely to have won but for falling 2 out, and he can gain compensation this time around. No Mean Feat finally got off the mark at this course recently and is feared most, ahead of Winston's Oath.
