Irish 1000 Guineas winner in 2024 and added 3 Group 1 prizes (all confined to own sex) to her tally last season, posting a personal best in 9-runner Sun Chariot Stakes. Found open company at the top level a different test in Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot final start and up in trip for return.

Good sort physically and well prepared to make a winning reappearance in listed company at Haydock a year ago (1¼m). Didn't need to improve to follow-up in a Group 3 on the all-weather after but ended 2025 with a pair of excellent placed efforts at the highest level. May yet have more to offer.

Has rarely stood much racing but evidently getting better with age, showing her versatility with Meydan wins over 9f and 2m in February/March, latterly in Group 2 company. This requires even more but she's race-fit and in top form.

Red Letter25

Listed winner at Killarney in July (1m) and took her form up a level when winning Group 3 Snow Fairy Stakes at the Curragh the following month. Sound third-place finishes 7 months apart since then (both at this trip) but minor honours at best look on the cards at these weights.

See The Fire18
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-2| J: Oisin Murphy| T: A M Balding| OR:  116| CD
Smart mare who was an impressive winner of this race a year ago. Also a close second in the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp last autumn and made the most of a sizeable drop in class at Nottingham 3 weeks ago. That should put her spot on for this repeat bid.

Forecasts

See The Fire (6/5), Fallen Angel (3/1), Diamond Rain (10/3), Red Letter (8/1), Fairy Glen (16/1)

Verdict

There's a chance we've yet to see the very best of low-mileage 5-y-o DIAMOND RAIN and sure to be spot on for this reappearance, she shades the vote in favour of last year's 12-length winner See The Fire. Fallen Angel has a Group-1 penalty to shoulder on first crack at this trip but she has the class to be involved.
