Fairly useful winner on the Flat and opened hurdles account on handicap debut in this sphere at Ludlow (2m, good to soft) last month. 9 lb rise fair given the ease with which he did the job and there should be more to come.

16/1
Irish point winner who impressed on hurdles debut at Southwell in November. However, he was forced to dig deep to land the odds in a Plumpton novice next time and his 2 subsequent efforts have lacked spark. Mister Ursus is presumably the stable first-string.

10/1
Useful hurdler/chaser earlier in his career and a winner of 2 of his 3 previous starts at this course. Latest success was back in September 2023 but clearly retains plenty of ability judged on efforts at Haydock and Doncaster the last twice.

2/1
Multiple Flat winner in France and has improved with each of his 4 starts switched to hurdles for present yard, most recently landing the odds in good style in a Fakenham (2m, good to soft) maiden. Mark for this handicap debut looks fair and he may well have more to offer.

40/1
Fairly useful winner on the Flat for Joseph O'Brien and opened hurdles account at Catterick in January 2025. Respectable efforts in handicaps next 2 starts but pulled up after losing his action (later found to be lame) at Musselburgh when last seen in February. Now tried in cheekpieces.

7/2
Runner-up in Irish point and made a winning hurdles debut over C&D in September. Disappointing when turned over at odds on in a 4-runner Newcastle handicap last time but reproduction of his effort at the same course in February would give him a chance. Tongue strap enlisted.

Off the mark in a strong Cartmel seller last May and subsequently transformed by new connections, winning twice and runner-up twice from first 4 starts for this yard. Good run of form came to a halt in the Hexham handicap won by Pure Gold when last seen in October and needs to bounce back.

25/1
French import who bagged a pair of 2m handicaps at Kelso during the autumn. Has struggled off higher marks since, though, and the addition of cheekpieces (retained) failed to help initiate a revival at Musselburgh last time.

Progressed when winning 3 times between July and October last year, including over this C&D in September. Wasn't disgraced at Cheltenham when last seen over 5 months ago but she will need to produce a personal best in order to get back on the scoresheet in this contest.

Winner of Downpatrick maiden chase in 2024 and struck over hurdles there in October. Placed on a couple occasions on the Flat the following month but below par in this sphere and over fences since.

Four-time C&D winner, including twice last spring, and also scored on the Flat at Ayr in September. Absent since finishing third at the same course later that month but she won here on the back of a similar absence 12 months ago and will have a chance if fully tuned-up.

Modest maiden on the Flat and similar form in this sphere, though latest second in a 17f Musselburgh novice was a creditable effort, for all that he was flattered by his proximity to the winner. Place possibilities.

Forecasts

Mister Ursus (2/1), Fouroneohfever (5/2), The Hatchet (7/2), A Different Kind (10/1), Just Dottie (14/1), Scriabin (16/1), Adonedeal (16/1), Magnolia (25/1), Pure Gold (25/1), Someone's Wish (33/1), How About No (40/1), Winds Of Winter (50/1)

Verdict

Unexposed 5-y-os FOURONEOHFEVER and Mister Ursus stand out in this contest, with marginal preference for the former who had plenty in hand when striking on his handicap bow at Ludlow last month and, on that evidence, a 9 lb rise looks manageable. Mister Ursus dotted up in a Fakenham maiden on his latest start and he should continue to progress. Best of the rest may prove to be Just Dottie, who likes it round here and she won on the back of a similar break over this C&D last April.
