Made the frame both starts between the flags, but up against some promising types on this Rules debut and will probably come on for the run in any case.

Fetched €170,000 as a 3-y-o and represents a top yard, which saddled the winner of this in both 2018 and 2019. Very much one to consider, particularly if the market vibes are upbeat.

Wide-margin winner of sole start in maiden points back in April 2023. Subsequent absence naturally raises questions in respect of fitness/wellbeing ahead of this Rules debut (has undergone a wind op and sports a tongue strap), but yard is in good form and he's an unknown quantity.

Cost €115,000 as a 3-y-o and closely related to fair hurdler Ballyfort. Promising fourth on debut in a Chepstow maiden hurdle (19.4f, soft) and, with that form working out well and improvement on the cards, he's high on the shortlist.

Off the mark at second attempt between the flags last November, beating two subsequent hurdles winners in the process. Failed to measure up to market expectations on Rules debut in a Sandown bumper, but better can be expected now upped in trip and switched to hurdles.

Out of a bumper/2m-2¾m hurdle winner and shaped with a good deal of promise when runner-up on debut in 2½m Aintree novice hurdle (good). Open to improvement and one to consider for the yard that has sent out 2 of the last 4 winners of this maiden.

£110,000 purchase after winning his sole start in Irish points, but hasn't cut much ice in a couple of appearances in this sphere.

Won sole start in Irish points and looked a useful prospect when following up on Rules debut in a Chepstow bumper last October. Has acquitted himself well in a couple of Grade 2s switched to hurdles this season and obvious claims with sights lowered here. Has undergone a wind op.

Found just one too good first time out in a Haydock bumper in May 2024 and again placed sole start last season in a listed event at Ascot where he came home 2 lengths adrift of the second-placed Moneygarrow. Likely to win races over hurdles, but this is a tough starting point.

£42,000 buy from the Irish pointing field who shaped like a stayer in 2m Ffos Las bumper and again when fourth upped to 19.7f in a Wetherby novice hurdle. Shouldn't be too long before he opens his account, but some of the others are more appealing on this occasion.

Successful twice from 4 starts between the flags and wasn't disgraced starting out under Rules when sixth in a 10-runner mares' novice here (19f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago. Still, she's probably more one for the longer term.

Forecasts

Moneygarrow (5/6), Step Ahead (10/3), Crackling Fire (6/1), Blue Run (13/2), Lightfingered Jack (14/1), Chasing Glance (20/1), Dropematthestation (28/1), Warriors Destiny (50/1), Star Of Honour (80/1), Local Derby (125/1), Back On Track (150/1)

Verdict

CRACKLING FIRE shaped with abundant promise when fourth at Chepstow, form which looks strong given that the winner was a listed bumper winner (also placed in a Grade 2 in that sphere), while the second and third have both won since. He is taken to build on that and emerge on top, with Lightfingered Jack, another who arrives here on the back of a highly encouraging debut, feared most ahead of Moneygarrow and likely-looking debutant Blue Run.
