Paddy Power Gold Cup Handicap Chase (In Memory Of Edward O'Grady) (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)

Off time: 14:20 | Winning time: 5m 14.87s

The Other Mozzie¹⁹⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 11-11| J: Eoin Staples⁽⁷⁾| T: G P Cromwell| OR: 145| BF

22/1

3-time chase winner (at up to 18f) who fared best of those held up when seventh in Gr 2 novice handicap at the Festival in March and better than ever when landing Scotty Brand Chase at Ayr in April. Below par over hurdles at Punchestown in May but he has gone well fresh previously.

Bad^b²⁷

Age: 6| Weight: 11-11| J: Ben Jones| T: B Pauling| OR: 145| D

18/1

Responded well to blinkers earlier in the year, winning back-to-back handicap chases at Kempton (20.5f). Good fifth at Sandown (20f) final outing and proved better than ever with headgear discarded when scoring on return at first-named venue 4 weeks ago. Headgear returns now but this a tougher ask.

Form: F11P5-1

Thecompanysergeant⁵²

Age: 8| Weight: 11-10| J: Keith Donoghue| T: G P Cromwell| OR: 144

14/1

Ran a cracker on the back of a spin over hurdles when chasing home Jagwar in the Plate at the Festival in March and has shaped as though still ahead of his mark in good company since, his jumping/stamina not so assured when sixth in Kerry National (23.8f) in September. Interesting back down in trip.

Form: 4325-96

Il Ridoto^p,t³⁴

Age: 8| Weight: 11-8| J: Harry Cobden| T: P F Nicholls| OR: 142| CD

8/1

8-y-o who ran out a good winner of this race 12 months ago. Handicapper seemed in control thereafter but encouragement to glean from his second-place finish on seasonal bow at Chepstow (19.5f) 5 weeks ago. Usual cheekpieces back on now and no surprise to see a bold showing.

Form: 16807-2

Coming Up Easy^t⁸⁴

Age: 7| Weight: 11-8| J: Darragh O'Keeffe| T: H De Bromhead| OR: 142

13/2

Hurdles winner who has proved an entirely different proposition ridden aggressively over fences, bringing up the hat-trick in fine style in 13-runner listed handicap at Killarney (20.8f) in August. 10 lb higher now but feasible to think this low-mileage 7-y-o could yet have more to offer.

Form: 0/0011-1

Vincenzo^t²⁵⁹

Age: 7| Weight: 11-3| J: Dylan Johnston⁽³⁾| T: S Thomas| OR: 137

10/3

Likeable sort who was successful on 2 of his first 3 starts over fences at around 2m last winter and took his form up a notch when a smashing second in the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury (19.8f) in March. Has a big race in him on that evidence and returns with yard in fine form. Tongue strap back on.

Form: 361212-

Theatre Native^h²⁷

Age: 7| Weight: 11-1| J: S Bowen| T: H De Bromhead| OR: 135| C

12/1

7-y-o mare who built on opening chase promise when readily landing 7-runner mares' novices' handicap here (20.6f) in April. Below best at Punchestown following start but back on track when third of 9 in handicap chase at Limerick (19.2f) 27 days ago and booking of Sean Bowen catches the eye here.

Form: 32210-3

Panic Attack²⁸⁰

Age: 9| Weight: 11-1| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| OR: 135| BF| CD

6/1

9-y-o mare who made short work of her rivals when cashing in on reduced mark over fences for this yard at Windsor (20.2f) in January. Absent since finishing a good second over hurdles at Warwick a month later but this likely been on her radar for some time and one to note back over larger obstacles.

Form: 43/3312-

Conyers Hill^h²⁷

Age: 7| Weight: 11-1| J: Sean O'Keeffe| T: P Nolan| OR: 135

14/1

Acquitted himself well without landing a telling blow when sixth in last season's Grand Annual and runner-up both subsequent outings 6 months apart, latterly at Limerick (19.2f) 4 weeks ago. Hasn't had much racing at this trip but suspicion he needs to pull out more to play a lead role here.

Form: 67162-2

Es Perfecto^p²⁴⁷

Age: 10| Weight: 11-0| J: Thomas Bellamy| T: A King| OR: 134| D

16/1

Successful twice in second season over fences, latterly at Sandown (20f) in February and continued the good work when fifth in Grade 2 novices' handicap at the Festival in March, only edged out of the frame close home. Mark is probably about right but record fresh a positive.

Form: 8/16415-

Hoe Joly Smoke^t²¹

Age: 7| Weight: 10-11| J: Kielan Woods| T: D Skelton| OR: 131| D

9/1

Improved switched to fences last season, winning twice at Sandown. Excuses in Bet365 on final start and plenty of encouragement to glean from his reappearance third in big-field 25f handicap here 21 days ago, in the thick of things before tying up final 100 yds. Each-way player back down in trip.

Form: 2151P-3

Hunter Legend²⁰⁵

Age: 8| Weight: 10-9| J: Charlie Deutsch| T: Miss V Williams| OR: 129| D

13/2

Hasn't looked back since attentions switched to larger obstacles, gaining a fifth victory from last 8 starts in dominant fashion at Bangor (20.3f) when last seen in April. This assignment asks a whole different question from career-high mark but unlikely we've seen all he has to offer.

Forecasts

Vincenzo (10/3), Jagwar (7/2), Panic Attack (6/1), Hunter Legend (13/2), Coming Up Easy (13/2), Il Ridoto (8/1), Hoe Joly Smoke (9/1), Theatre Native (12/1), Conyers Hill (14/1), Thecompanysergeant (14/1), Es Perfecto (16/1), Bad (18/1), Riskintheground (20/1), The Other Mozzie (22/1), Issar D'Airy (50/1)

JAGWAR was one of the most progressive horses in training over fences last term, winning 4 of his 5 starts, culminating in success in the Plate at the Festival. Looking every inch a graded performer in the making, he's fancied to defy the assessor again and bag another big prize. Vincenzo signed off last season with a fine second at Newbury and is feared for the red-hot Sam Thomas stable. Panic Attack, Thecompanysergeant and last year's winner Il Ridoto are also considered.
