Three wins from 7 runs this year, the latest at Chester in May. Respectable fifth of 25 in handicap at Ayr (6f, soft, 20/1) 21 days ago, running on. Now 2 lb lower and he's a strong candidate for the yard that has saddled 2 of the last 8 winners of this handicap.

C&D winner in August. 10/1, respectable sixth of 25 in handicap at Ayr (6f, soft) 21 days ago, left poorly placed. Effectively 2 lb lower (was 2 lb 'wrong' at Ayr) and this 3-y-o is a major player.

10/1, excellent second of 7 in handicap at Navan (5f, good) 35 days ago, suited by way race developed. First run for yard after leaving David Marnane and he'll probably find one or two too good.

Below form fourth of 10 in handicap at Haydock (5f, good, 8/1) 14 days ago, but he wasn't given a hard time and should be closer to concert pitch now. One to consider.

5/6, respectable second of 6 in minor event at Gowran (7f, soft) 21 days ago. Perhaps the first-time blinkers will help eke out a little more and, if so, this Irish raider could have a part to play.

14/1, eighth of 11 in handicap at Ascot (5f, soft) 7 days ago, merely closing up late. Has slipped to a workable mark, but others come into this with stronger credentials based on recent exploits.

Eleven runs since last win in 2024. 18/1, twenty-second of 25 in handicap at Ayr (6f, soft) 21 days ago. Winner of 2 of the last 3 renewals of this and has edged back to the same mark as when successful 12 months ago, but he's nevertheless likely to find one or two too good this time round.

Binhareer (9/2), Northern Ticker (9/2), Hammer The Hammer (13/2), Commanche Falls (9/1), Gleneagle Bay (9/1), Eye Of Dubai (12/1), Korker (14/1), Rousing Encore (14/1), Eternal Sunshine (16/1), Dark Cloud Rising (16/1), Blue Storm (18/1), Strike Red (20/1), Uncle Don (20/1), Jordan Electrics (22/1), King's Lynn (25/1), Sergeant Wilko (25/1), Gweedore (28/1), Purest Time (40/1), Bergerac (40/1), Sir Yoshi (40/1), Toyotomi (50/1), Loom (80/1)

Verdict

The vote goes to BLUE STORM, who stepped up on his belated reappearance when an eye-catching fourth at Haydock a fortnight ago and he has dipped 1 lb below the mark off which he scored at around this time last year. Binhareer did well under the circumstances in the Silver Cup at Ayr recently and is second choice, while Northern Ticker, who wasn't ideally placed when just behind the re-opposing Hammer The Hammer in the Gold Cup at that meeting, is also feared. Uncle Don is another key player.
