Flat debutante who has shown some fair form in bumpers (best effort when runner-up at Carlisle in November), easy to back on hurdles debut (ran poorly). Hard to see him being good enough to get involved in this.

Modest level of form on his only juvenile start (looked green) when well held behind subsequent Group 3 Zetland Stakes winner Max Vega over 1m at Pontefract. Been gelded since, makes limited appeal stepping on 2f on return.
Stable in red hot form (won 2000 Guineas on Saturday) and more than capable of getting one ready first-time out. 50,000gns yearling, fifth foal, half brother to a couple of middle distance winners (Party Line and Observational); one for shortlist.

70,000gns yearling, first foal, dam ran twice in France (unplaced on AW). One of several newcomers in the field but others of that group are preferred on this occasion unless they are any overly strong market vibes.
$47,000 yearling who was resold at the same age for €58,000. Third foal, dam unraced half-sister to US Grade 2 1m1f winner Stanford, pedigree suggests she would be better suited to AW but in capable hands for debut.

Third and showed promise on his AW debut at Wolverhampton over an extended 1m he could never land a blow from a wide draw at the same venue when last seen. Gelded since he remains open to further progress switched to turf off a break.
Fifth foal, €145,000 yearling, brother 1m2f winner Jetstream and smart winner up to 1m4f Pablo Escobarr. Dam winner up to 7f (multiple Listed/Group 3 winner), very much one to note on debut given his pedigree and connections.

Newcomer (yard's debutantes usually come on for the outing), 75,000gns yearling, fourth foal, dam, ran twice in France, closely related to smart winner up to 1m2f Dream Peace; best watched on debut unless the market suggests otherwise.

Caught the eye when making his debut at Ayr over 1m (good pedigree), was very green but ran on well from a hopeless position to finish midfield (not knocked about). Gelded since, he looks capable of considerable progress, can't be ignored.

Appeared to show a fair level of ability on debut over 1m (heavy) at Nottingham last October, finishing third. Should improve given this extra 2f (pedigree looks more about stamina than speed); faces some decent rivals, may be one for handicaps.

Not a yard you would associate with winning this sort of event especially with a newcomer. Closely related to 5½f winner Rambert and half-sister to 1m2f winner Rakmanova. Dam 1m2f winner, would be a surprise winner.

Forecasts

Will Sommers (7/4), Roberto Escobarr (9/4), Fiesta De Vega (5/1), Pattaya (7/1), My Vision (11/1), Glory Dab (11/1), Speech Room (16/1), Isola Bella May (22/1), Momentsaftamidnite (33/1), Bringitonboris (40/1), Call Me Freddie (100/1), Quiet Rain (250/1)

Verdict

Those that have run so far set a reasonable but hardly outstanding level of form with Will Sommers the best of those that have had an outing his Ayr fifth suggesting that he can make further progress based on that 2yo start now he’s stepped up to this trip. Perhaps the most interest lies with newcomers Roberto Escobarr and FIESTA DE VEGA. The first-named has an appealing pedigree but the form of the Andrew Balding yard tip the scales of selection in favour of the latter who also has a tempting pedigree. The fact that expensive yearling Pattaya has been kept in training and now makes her debut as a 4yo suggests that she has ability and any market strength should be noted.
  1. Fiesta De Vega
  2. Roberto Escobarr
  3. Will Sommers
