Regular in this race, winner of it in 2017 and 2018 and unseating when every chance last year; great effort to be third in the Sussex National last time out and looks primed for another crack at "his" Gold Cup race.
Good handicapper that's at home over a variety of distances, back to form when runner-up at Leicester last time out; handles heavy ground fine, gets a useful 5lb from Rathlin Rose and if avoiding mistakes (which isn't always the case) has chances.
Has a great record at the track, and won the Grand Military under this rider last March; not quite been at his best this term but a wind operation since last being seen and a short break should help; can never be ruled out at a "home" fixture.
Form of his win on heavy ground at Uttoxeter last March would bring him into this, but since then he's thrown in a series of moderate efforts ans was most disappointing when favourite at Carlisle last time; hard to know what to expect.
Back in the groove over hurdles last two starts, runner-up at both Cheltenham and Wetherby in competitive handicaps; reverts to fences today, but of more of a worry is the ground, which may not be in his favour.
Plugged on for a distant fifth in the Grand Military here last March but overall level of form is nowhere near as good as a few of these, and not hard to look elsewhere for the winner.
Flew home for second in the Grand Military here last March (at a rewarding 150-1) and that isn't his only good effort in these Military races here either; likely to fall short again but could easily outrun huge odds despite advancing years.
