Very useful handicap chaser at best, but both efforts this season have been disappointing. Has dropped down the weights and finds himself in a weaker race than he is used to, so reasons to expect a bold show.
Decent performer in his prime and certainly capable of going well off this sort of mark, but has been pulled up on both starts this season. Needs to bounce back in first-time cheekpieces.
Has not won as many races over fences as he should have done, but boasts a fair level of form and ran well to be second at Leicester two starts ago. Chance on that display if fall last time out has not had a detrimental effect.
Back-to-back successes last April, but not in the same form off higher marks in two subsequent starts. Returns from a quite lengthy break and may need the run to put him straight.
High-class performer at his best when trained by David Pipe, but form has tailed off as he has entered the veteran stage. Change of stable may trigger a revival, though, and he is undeniably well treated.
Stable companion of No Duffer who was pulled up on soft ground at Kelso last time. Previous two efforts were respectable and he has dropped to his last winning mark. Blinkered for the first time.
Last of his three wins over fences came over C&D, but that was back in December, 2015. By no means disgraced at Ludlow last time and is likely to be thereabouts.
Stable companion of Ballynagour and probably the yard's number one hope. Has been running with credit on ground softer than ideal and looks dangerous off his current mark.
In-and-out performer these days, but best recent efforts have come at this track including when winning this race a year ago off 4lb higher. Obvious chance on that piece of form if on one of his going days.
Returned from a 22-month absence to win a seven-runner handicap at Exeter in which only two finished. Has been raised 12lb and gets in under a 7lb penalty. Has to avoid the dreaded "bounce" factor, but is clearly dangerous if in the same mood.
Retains his enthusiasm and was not disgraced when fourth in this contest a year ago. Others make more appeal, but he is not written off given his favourable handicap mark.
In great form in 2016, but was sidelined for 21 months before finishing seventh of 11 at Bangor. Built on that when a good third at Fakenham and could get involved if taking another step forward,
Forecasts
Band Of Blood (2/1), Indian Castle (6/1), Carole's Destrier (13/2), Sego Success (8/1), Ballynagour (17/2), Killala Quay (16/1), Fox Appeal (16/1), Halo Moon (20/1), No Duffer (20/1), Call Me Vic (22/1), Astracad (33/1), Upswing (40/1)
Some real old favourites who should provide a great advertisement for these types of races. Although Indian Castle looks his stable's main hope, any resurgence from Ballynagour would make him a danger to all off this mark. Sego Success and the inconsistent KiIllala Quay both like this venue and enter calculations, but the suggestion is CAROLE'S DESTRIER, who got stuck in the Haydock mud last time and will appreciate a return to a sounder surface and weaker company off a falling handicap mark. Band Of Blood bolted up on his reappearance after a long absence, but comes with the risk of "bouncing" and has a 7lb penalty to cope with.
- Carole's Destrier
- Indian Castle
- Sego Success
