Has improved with each run so far and scored in a Southwell maiden hurdle (1m7½f, good) last time. That was not a bad contest of its type, so he could give another good account under a penalty. Has it to prove on much more testing ground.
Won Irish point-to-point at sixth attempt and stepped up on his rules/bumper debut when winning over 2m3f (heavy) on hurdles debut here earlier in the month. Dropped in trip for follow-up bid under penalty but travelled well last time and may cope.
Going the right way and best effort so far was when winning at Newcastle (2m½f, soft) earlier in the month. That form looks solid, though he will need to step up on it again to defy a penalty. Not ruled out if handling these bottomless conditions.
Triple bumper winner for John Ferguson in 2015. Off almost two years before good stable debut over C&D (heavy) in Listed race last month. Showed he retains ability when 11L winner at Bangor (heavy) last time. Looks a serious player under penalty.
Nothing special in two point-to-points and beaten 45L by Waterlord at Bangor on hurdles debut earlier in the month. No reason why he can't improve for that with stable among the winners, but looks to have too much to do today.
Irish point-to-point winner (heavy) on debut in February and again went well on testing ground on hurdles debut at Hexham in October. Slightly disappointing at Ayr last time and hood now applied. Probably more a handicap prospect than one for today.
Forecasts
Waterlord (6/4), Ravensdale (2/1), Mahlervous (13/2), Treshnish (13/2), Saint Freule (12/1), For Jim (50/1)
A race that looks to revolve around the four who come into it with penalties to carry courtesy of previous hurdling success and the vote goes to WATERLORD, who can live up to his name after all the recent precipitation at the track and confirm the good impression that he left us with when scoring at Bangor last time. Mahlervous has to prove himself in this much deeper ground than at Southwell, while Ravensdale showed that he goes in a quagmire when winning here over further and although he has won a point-to-point, his run that day suggested that he may have the speed for 2m on testing ground. Treshnish also has it to prove on heavy ground, but he is not ruled out from taking another step forward.
- Waterlord
- Ravensdale
- Treshnish
