Makes hurdling debut for new yard having proven himself a fair handicapper over 1m4f-2m for William Knight. His five victories have come on sound surfaces and his chances will improve if conditions dry out further.

Lacked the pace to challenge at Ayr and, as a half-brother to 4m4f winner Another Jewel, he will come into his own over further.

This will be just his third race in two years but clearly goes well fresh. May want it softer over this trip but not highly tried on return.
Ran out on Wincanton hurdling debut when odds of 66/1 indicated a lack of faith. Possible he may prove easier to steer on this left-handed track but he carries potential risks.
€100,000 purchase found little for pressure on hurdling debut. Looks more of a long term project and probably one to watch for the future.

Failed to stay on only completed start in point-to-points and joined this yard for £4,500. Should find this trip more to his liking judged on pedigree.

Beat a subsequent Flat winner on his bumper debut without breaking much of a sweat. Involved in a tight finish here on hurdling debut when the ground was a lot softer. That looked a better race than this and he would rate the one to beat.
Winning point-to-pointer who has not pulled up any trees in a trio of novice hurdles. Still early days, however, so not one to write off yet.

€16,000 buy as a foal and half-brother to useful bumper/hurdle winner Kells Belle amongst others. Pedigree looks interesting enough to command attention in the ring.

Forecasts

Monty's Award (8/13), Du Soleil (11/4), Captain Peacock (13/2), Captiva Island (10/1), Great Lover (20/1), Mad For Action (33/1), Stay In Touch (50/1), Wahwonaisa (50/1), Mega Mind (66/1)

Verdict

MONT'YS AWARD went so well on his hurdling debut that he is hard to overlook in what appears a less competitive event and with the ground looking far more suitable. Du Soleil catches the eye with Sean Bowen having his first ride for a top yard and given the promise of his hurdling debut at Haydock. Captiva Island will come into his own further, whilst Captain Peacock had winning form on the level and the quicker the ground the better his chances.
