Top class handicap hurdler back in the day (won the 2015 Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival) but those days are a distant memory. Woeful since joining this yard in late 2016, falling 36lb in the weights and seemingly lacking interest.
Proved himself as a fair novice hurdler, winning on heavy ground at Carlisle in February 2016, but didn't take to fencing, and has also been pulled up on both recent starts over hurdles. Falling to a fair mark and the hood is applied.
Won a 2m2f Newton Abbot maiden hurdle on fast ground in April 2015, but struggled thereafter from a harsh looking hurdles mark. No joy over fences, and a heavy fall at Market Rasen seemingly left it's mark. Off since April 2016.
A twelve race maiden on the Flat for Brian Meehan (73 rated), and 0 from 3 over hurdles for this yard (novices). Makes his handicap debut needing to show plenty more promise in order to play a hand.
Veteran who has won a C&D selling hurdle in the past (June 2014). Successful from this mark at Cartmel in early July (2m1f good), but much more moderate since and looks fairly exposed.
His sole success came over 2m at Newcastle in December (soft), and in truth he lacks any real size to progress further. Dropped 2lb since his last start at Perth in April, and feasibly treated if race fit.
Stablemate of Mighty Whitey. Won just once in 17 attempts over hurdles (2m soft at Uttoxeter in April), but fairly consistent for his level and back on the same mark this afternoon.
Landed a gamble when scoring on deep ground at Newcastle (2m4f) in early March, and backed that up with a fair second here nine days later. This shorter trip looks a potential negative. Stablemate of Dakota Grey.
Dual C&D winner who likes to get her toe into the ground. Races from out of the handicap and folded quickly (after leading) when sixth of 13 to Cherry Princess last week, so best overlooked.
Forecasts
Oishin (3/1), Take A Break (9/2), Mash Potato (5/1), Knocknamona (13/2), Call The Cops (7/1), Mighty Whitey (10/1), Dakota Grey (10/1), Mrs Grass (18/1), Magnum (25/1)
Another largely unconvincing collection of handicappers which are headed by the free-falling 2015 Pertemps Hurdle winner Call The Cops. He has been woeful, both prior to, and since leaving the care of Nicky Henderson and appears to have totally lost the passion for racing. Maurice Barnes has enjoyed a profitable 2017 at Hexham, and whilst there is very little of Oishin, he won on soft ground at Newcastle in December and is feasibly treated if fully tuned up on his return. However, in a race where nothing makes any significant appeal DAKOTA GREY is a tentative selection. His recent form figures are uninspiring, but perhaps not as bad as they appear, and some hope remains that the application of the hood for the first time will help him to settle, and if doing so, a reduced mark of 110 could well prove to be a gift.
- Dakota Grey
- Oishin
- Knocknamona
