Returned to action at Stratford last month for the first time since pulling up in the Scottish National at Ayr in April, and that race yielded a similar result. Now a few pounds below his last winning mark and definitely capable of winning at his best, but whether he is able to show that level of form must be questionable.

Progressed over fences during the early part of his career, and his course success came earlier still in a bumper. His stamina looks plentiful, but he appears fragile having raced on just three occasions since October 2014. He almost certainly blew up at Stratford last month, but isn't without a semblance of a chance if straighter and the ground remains quick.

Showed signs that a busy spell might well be catching up with him when appearing less than resolute at Ffos Las in June (runner up to Awaywiththegreys). However, he's difficult crab having finished either winner or runner up on his last four starts and given that he doesn't seem to win by too far isn't likely to be over punished by the assessor.

Won three on the bounce between May and June 2016 (2m5f to 3m good) and made a winning return from a ten month absence when gamely repelling Lost Legend at Uttoxeter last month (3m soft). Probably capable of more, but that is required from a career high mark. Rain wouldn't be a concern.

Successful for this rider over an extended 2m7f at Chepstow (good) in April but his form has been poor in the main since. The exception came when runner up off a 2lb lower mark at Worcester (good) in June. Others are more compelling unless the market speaks otherwise.

Seems ideally suited by a sound surface as demonstrated when winning twice at Leicester (once in a match) during December 2016. The handicapper didn't miss after the latter of those two successes (raised 11lb) and he's largely been comfortably held since. First start since mid April.

Not overly striking since winning back to back 2m5f chases in 2014, and was forced to have two plus years off the track between December 2014 and January 2017. Gave a clear indication that some ability remains when beaten a nose over hurdles at Uttoxeter in May, but not so good since and now goes back over fences.

Forecasts

Jack Snipe (2/1), Gingili (5/2), Kinari (7/2), Danandy (5/1), Rockchasebullett (11/2), Clubs Are Trumps (8/1), Oliver's Hill (9/1), Father Edward (9/1)

Verdict

JACK SNIPE has proved a revelation since going back over fences and now sports a 50% strike rate over the larger obstacles. He has been hit with a massive rise for his latest victory at Newton Abbot in July, but what was most likeable about that performance was the way in which he travelled throughout the race. These summer contests are often all about the horse in the best recent form, and with stamina in spades he's worth supporting from a revised mark of 110. Another improver, Kinari, would appear the chief threat, and he seems versatile in terms of ground conditions and his recent narrow Uttoxeter success should almost certainly be marked up (his first run for ten months).
  1. Jack Snipe
  2. Kinari
  3. Danandy
