Ran out a 1¼L winner of this contest in 2016 (good to soft) when proving too strong for Wisty, and has mixed hurdling with Flat racing and chasing since. Warmed up for his defence with a 4L success in a low grade 1m6f Flat handicap at Bellewstown earlier this month, and must hold reasonable claims.

Once with Nicky Henderson, but has done well for this yard winning three times in 2017 with cut. Arrives here seeking a hat-trick having been successful the past twice over C&D (beat stablemate Fiosrach in late May). Raised 5lb for his latest neck success from Captain Brown.

Thrived since switched from Ireland to join this trainer (2 from 3 overall), and arrives seeking a hat-trick after scoring with relative ease over similar trips at Sedgefield (maiden hurdle) and Uttoxeter (novices hurdle). Steps into handicap company now, but this mark looks fair and likely to make a bold bid from the front.

Deservedly off the mark after some decent placed efforts mid winter when a 5L winner of a Class 4 handicap hurdle over C&D last month (good to soft). Raised 7lb and this looks more competitive, but respected.

The suspicion is that this three time winner is weighted to beat his stablemate Lough Kent based upon their clash here in May (faltered and caught close home), but he was disappointing subsequently over C&D earlier in the month. Tongue tie is applied for the first time (to regular cheek-pieces).

Forecasts

Beeno (5/2), Baby Jake (11/4), Lough Kent (3/1), Ravens Hill (5/1), Fiosrach (6/1)

Verdict

A compact field, but certain to be keenly competed for by the Lady Riders' with a special prize of diamond jewellery to accompany the more traditional monetary earnings. The Skelton brothers appear to have prepped RAVENS HILL for this contest with Bridget Andrews taking over in the saddle and whilst this is a tougher race than those the four-year-old has plundered with ease at Sedgefield and Uttoxeter, he appears tough to beat unless the conditions are really testing (good to soft, soft in places at the time of writing). Of the remainder, C&D experience isn't in short supply, and perhaps 2016 winner Baby Jake is the likeliest danger having warmed up for his defence with a fluent success on the Flat at Bellewstown.
  1. Ravens Hill
  2. Baby Jake
  3. Lough Kent
