Last victory came in much better company than this at Haydock in March 2016. Has lost her way since and struggles for a response in the heat of battle. Latest effort showed more of the same and she looks vulnerable off topweight.
Showed useful form for Nigel Twiston-Davies in 2015, but has not been the same horse since having a hard race at Cheltenham in the autumn of that year.
Winner at Kempton in May 2016 but both starts since have suggested he may have developed some issues. Best observed until showing more promising signs of a revival.
Stays this trip and quick ground no issue, but no win since 2013 and has been well beaten in all starts lately.
In form trainer has won three of the last six renewals of this. Has switched from Ireland where his form in all disciplines was hit and miss. Pulled up in a chase on his first start for new yard after jumping poorly. Irish form suggests he will get this far and he is worth a check in the market as cheekpieces are fitted.
2m7f soft ground handicap hurdle winner for Pat Fahey in March 2017 when wearing the first-time blinkers, but unable to follow up from a 7lb higher mark at Kilbeggan. Moved on for £22,000 gns and no disgrace behind Terry The Fish here a month ago. The winner has defied a 14lb rise since and, from a yard with an 18-38 record with summer hurdlers at this venue, he has to enter calculations.
Knows how to win should the opportunity arise and came good at Wetherby earlier in the year. Beat a subsequent dual winner that day but has failed to take advantage of a fair mark since. The way he faded over 2m3f last time raises concerns about the extra half-mile he will travel here.
Has looked out of love with the jumping game at times, and recent efforts have done little to dispel that impression either. Cheekpieces now tried in a bid to straighten him out.
Formerly with David Pipe, but ran his best race for this trainer when 15L second to Vercingetorix (2m4f good) at Hexham recently. Same rider back on board having been amateur ridden last time.
Getting a little better with each start in novice hurdles and looks the type to do better now handicapping upped in trip. Opening mark looks correct and any further improvement would make him an interesting proposition.
Forecasts
Supreme Steel (1/1), Mont Choisy (8/1), Lady Of Longstone (8/1), Mere Anarchy (8/1), Holy Street (10/1), Lord Topper (12/1), Badgerfort (12/1), Border Breaker (16/1), Falcarragh (40/1), Western Jo (66/1)
Badgerfort represents a yard that have targeted this race previously and he is one to note in the market. SUPREME STEEL had no chance with a well handicapped rival here last time. He still finished a long way ahead of the third and the winner has defied a 14lb rise since. Holy Street represents a top yard and catches the eye at the foot of the weights for a top stable, whilst Border Breaker makes each-way appeal with Paddy Brennan back on board.
- Supreme Steel
- Border Breaker
- Badgerfort
