24 race maiden (who handles the surface), but is unlikely to be anywhere near good enough on these terms having been campaigned in Class 6 and 7 handicaps with regularity. Wears blinkers for the first time.

No promise whatsoever in three starts on the Flat (or in a bumper), and impossible to fancy on these terms on his AW debut.

Fetched 300,000 gns at a "breeze-up" in 2015 and is a Canford Cliffs half-brother to three winners on the continent. Showed some promise until weakening from 2F out on his belated debut at Windsor (1m2f) last month, but faces a tough task giving weight to the three-year-olds on AW debut.

Nathaniel colt who cost 525,000 gns as a yearling. Dam (Kinnaird) won six races including the Group Two May Hill Stakes. Made eye-catching late progress on debut at Chelmsford last month despite racing greenly (sixth to Alfarris), and his trainer has an incredibly strong recent record at this track. Holds a Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes entry at Royal Ascot.

Finished a remote tailed off last of seven on debut for Ron Harris at Chepstow in August 2016 (1m), and returns for a new trainer in a competitive maiden, so easily ruled out.
16,000 gns yearling second foal by Cape Cross out of Famusa. His Dam was a Listed placed, 1m to 1m3f winner in Italy, so clearly respected from a leading stable on racecourse debut.

Stable have saddled plenty of winners here on Tapeta over the past twelve months, and this unraced Frankel colt out of a Montjeu mare (Hasten) looks the part on paper. A first foal, she is related to various Grade 1/Group 1 winners, and is on the short-list.

Finished last (tailed off) on both starts as a juvenile over 1m. Gelded, and up in trip, but others are far stronger in this contest.

Rear division finishes in a couple of Chelmsford maidens last month (1m to 1m2f). Switches to Tapeta for his third start, but looks more of a type for handicaps in the future.

Finished a fairly distant sixth of eight to Daawy on debut at Ripon in late April (1m2f good) and needs to have improved a bundle to be competitive against a few of these rivals from more high profile stables tonight.

Looked in need of the experience (and a trip) on her debut at Kempton in November (sixth), but hung for pressure when upped to 1m2f at Windsor for her seasonal reappearance last month, and looks vulnerable in this company.

Doing her best work late after showing signs of greeness from an early stage on debut at Wolverhampton last month (extended mile). Her Dam Light Blow was a sister to Oaks winner Light Shift, and she therefore has plenty of stamina in her pedigree. Likely to be much sharper for the experience and this galloping track a major plus to her chances.

Forecasts

Abjar (8/13), Light Of Joy (9/2), Lady Bergamot (8/1), Cape Coast (8/1), Lady Macha (8/1), Captor (14/1), Sparte Quercus (25/1), Toronto Sound (33/1), Lord Rob (40/1), Vindicator (66/1), Canizay (100/1), Saint Cuthberts (150/1), Python (200/1)

Verdict

Connections of ABJAR probably hoped that June 3rd would have seen a trip to Epsom (held a Derby entry) rather than a visit to Newcastle for a maiden, but this once raced Nathaniel colt looks to have a decent future ahead nevertheless based upon his Chelmsford debut effort which gave plenty of optimism for the future. His trainer has a strong record at this track, and this Group 2 King Edward VII entrant looks a cut above these rivals and should be off the mark at the second attempt.

  2. Light Of Joy
  3. Captor
