Formerly with Nicky Henderson, and a 3m handicap hurdle winner at Punchestown in April 2016, this eight-year-old, converted a 'penalty kick' in a match on his chasing debut at Southwell (2m) last month. This longer trip will suit and he's open to further improvement now back to winning ways, and very much the pick of the weights today.
Two time winner over hurdles at the minimum distance, including when making all to defeat Sakhee's City at Wetherby in November 2016. Makes his rules chasing debut, and must be considered a contender despite a difficult task at the weights on hurdles ratings with Cup Final.
Faces a tough task at these weights in novice company having regularly raced in handicap hurdles without success from marks in the high 90's/low 100's. Tries fences for the first time, and his trainer has saddled the odd winner lately.
His form figures over hurdles since switched to this trainer make for rather bleak viewing, and the application of tongue tie and cheek-pieces hasn't brought about any improvement. Readily discounted on chasing debut.
Moderate hurdler, who had no chance at the weights with Soupy Soups in a novice hurdle here last month. A similar story this afternoon on his rules chasing debut (0 from 4 in Point-to-Points during 2014/15).
Irish Point-to-Point runner up in April 2016, but very low-key performances so far in four races over hurdles for this yard. Off since December 2016, and better anticipated now going chasing, but faces a tough task with the top two in this contest.
Forecasts
Eyes Of A Tiger (4/6), Cup Final (7/4), Flying Jack (14/1), Zolfo (28/1), Mahler Bay (66/1), King Golan (125/1)
CUP FINAL should comfortably make it two from two over fences for Ben Haslam, despite having a 7lb penalty to carry for his Southwell success. He was far classier than any of these five rivals over hurdles, and on handicap figures alone simply can't be opposed in a desperately weak novices chase. Eyes Of A Tiger is equally comfortably a clear second best.
