€125,000 purchase and a half-brother to the winners, two of them on multiple occasions. Scored on his Taunton debut in December and not a bad effort at all under a penalty at Musselburgh last time. Sets the benchmark.
£12,000 buy out of a mare who was twice-placed in France and the same sire as Ibis Du Rheu. Rare bumper runner for a yard who has not trained a winner in this sphere in the past five seasons.

Made a promising debut in this race last year when runner-up (good to soft) but well beaten both starts since, including in tongue strap.

£16,000 purchase out of an unraced Zamindar mare and not entirely sure that pedigree marks him out as an ideal bumper performer. However, did at least beat all except one home when 15L runner-up at Hexham in June. Others preferred.

Settled better than on his debut when runner-up at Southwell last month, finishing ahead of a previous winner. That was probably better than some staged at that track and any improvement this time would make him a leading contender.

Beaten a neck on Ayr debut (soft) in January but raced keenly when sent off favourite at Musselburgh last time and well beaten as a result. Not yet sure if good ground also contributed to his demise that day, but we will know more after this.

£8,000 buy who ran with credit on debut last spring at Sedgefield (good to firm), though was found out next time at Uttoxeter. Good jockey booked for the mount, though otherwise hard to fancy.
Won a maiden point-to-point on debut last spring before changing hands for £30,000. Half-brother to triple winning staying chaser Maid In Moscow (highest BHA rating 110) and an interesting newcomer for a yard in form and with a 10% strike rate in this sphere.

£9,000 buy and while three of his dam's progeny have failed to muster a win, he is a half-brother to the smart Tom George-trained staying chaser No Duffer, a six-time winner and currently rated 144. Yard not had a bumper winner in over five years.

€8,000 purchase and half-brother to multiple winner Violiniste, currently rated 122 and who relishes good ground and stays around 2m4f. Plenty of stamina on sire's side of pedigree and an interesting debutant with jockey's 10lb claim, though yard not had a winner in this sphere in five seasons.

Nice enough debut for a long way behind a good winner at Catterick (soft) last month and should be capable of building on that for a stable in good form and with a 24% strike rate in this discipline.

Made a reasonably encouraging debut here behind a decent sort and should have learned plenty there. Looking for some improvement on better ground this time around.
Half-brother to three multiple Flat winners at up to 1m5½f. Dam also won four times on the Flat at up to 1m7f (top rating 73) and acted on a sound surface. Yard in tremendous form, though has had just one bumper winner from 43 runners in past five seasons.

Failed to sparkle in the sales ring and represents a yard in reasonable form, though not noted for bumper winners (2-48 in past five seasons). Ran with credit on debut in October and can show improvement today for extra 2f and probably also on better ground.

Forecasts

Fernan (9/4), Captain Woodie (11/4), Hello Fellas (7/2), Town Head (7/1), Red Ochre (14/1), Rising Marienbard (16/1), Duffy Allen (33/1), Disturb (33/1), Heartasia (50/1), Competition (50/1), Jacarno (66/1), Birch Bank (66/1), Beau Sancy (66/1), Reminding (125/1)

Verdict

Captain Woodie is the sole runner on the card here for Nicky Henderson, which will have some running to wager, but although he can go very well he is clearly vulnerable under his penalty and FERNAN can take advantage at the third time of asking. Red Ochre also looks a danger, while the interesting newcomers include Rising Marienbard, Birch Bank and Town Head.
  1. Fernan
  2. Red Ochre
  3. Captain Woodie
