Emerged as a leading contender for the Grand National with an emphatic success at Ascot last time. Ran his rivals into the ground that day and connections have found an ideal race for him in preparation for Aintree..

Forced Gold Cup favourite Native River to pull out all the stops at Newbury last time. A literal interpretation of that performance would make him hard to oppose. His Aintree second to the ill-fated Many Clouds would further advance his claims on these terms. Another with the Grand National as a target and his stable do well on their raids here.

Unduly punished by the handicapper for winning an unsatisfactory race here in January. Trainer needs to find a suitable conditions event and today shows how hard that is going to be.

Unfavoured by the conditions of this race which gives him upwards of 37lb to find with his rivals.

Goes well around here where he is 2-3. Overall form leaves him short of the standards set by the Southern raiders. Has a tendency to hit a few fences which would be costly at this level.

Forecasts

Tenor Nivernais (4/6), Le Mercurey (2/1), Seldom Inn (8/1), Bernardelli (20/1), Lowanbehold (200/1)

Verdict

Tenor Nivernais got the run of the race when bounding home well clear last time. He looks sure to go off at a short price and he may find LE MERCUREY a different proposition. His latest run may flatter him but he delighted his trainer that day and an earlier second to Many Clouds would probably be good enough anyway. Seldom Inn goes well here and will capitalise should his main rivals fail to deliver.

  2. Tenor Nivernais
  3. Seldom Inn
