Point-to-point winner who cost £13,000 last May and has a decent jumping pedigree. Yet to back that up on the track with a win, however. Not a bad chase debut at Plumpton last time, though was well beaten in second and races from the same mark here. Cheek pieces now on for the first time (the only previous headgear he has worn is a tongue strap), so that might help matters.
Has seen plenty of racecourse action already for his age, winning a hurdle at Kelso (2m6f, good to soft) in a first-time visor and making the frame in several others. Chase debut at Bangor was a decent effort in the contest of this race, with the horse that finished 14L behind him having come out and made the frame next time. Yard going well and he would have stronger claims than most of these.
Made the frame in all four bumpers starts and also first time out over hurdles, though has not yet gone on from that, with his last three starts bringing varying degrees of disappointment. Was sent off favourite for his chase debut at Exeter last time but failed to complete and will need to jump more fluently today. Cannot be ruled out, though nor does he looks like a good thing.
Point-to-point winner who failed to sell last May, but subsequently changed yards and after several abortive attempts over hurdles, he came good last time when runner-up on his chase debut at Uttoxeter, staying on strongly on desperate ground. Forecast conditions may therefore suit him again here and any improvement would entitled him to pick up some money.
1-11 over hurdles ad put some poor form behind him at Hereford last time when a 1L runner-up (2m5f, heavy) from a mark of 94. Up 4lb for that, but forecast ground suits and this trip will be no problem as he has won over 2m7f over hurdles.
Won a 3m Chepstow handicap chase in November from a 3lb higher mark, so entitled to have claims on that basis, Raced over too short-a-trip last time, so should appreciate the return to this, though not sure how consistent he is.
Rated 89 over hurdles and makes his chase debut here from 5lb lower. Did win a point-to-point over 2m4f and sure to be well schooled for this, so the hope is that he can show more now that he tackles bigger obstacles.
Forecasts
Knight Ofthe Realm (7/2), Bacchanel (4/1), Celtic Park (4/1), How's Vienna (9/2), Bassarabad (5/1), Royals And Rebels (10/1), Phangio (12/1)
Not a race to get overly enthused about and BASSARAD might provide the answer. The form of his chase debut looks solid enough and he should be able to improve a bit this time. Royals And Rebels needs to step up on his own debut run and supporters will hope that cheek pieces can do the trick, while both Celtic Park and Bacchanel should be considered.
1. Bassarabad
2. Royals And Rebels
3. Celtic Park
