Related to useful chaser Keltic Bard, and has shown some aptitude for hurdles in his four hurdles starts, finishing a good second to the useful Swansea Mile at Kempton last year (might have won but for a bad mistake at the last) and again last time when not disgraced behind Master Of Irony at Market Rasen, but heavy ground could be a problem, with all his better form coming on quicker ground.
Debut for Tim Vaughan today after racing in the French provinces for his six starts so far. Hasn't beaten a horse home in last three starts and although hard to assess his chance, overall evidence suggests there are better options.
The merest glimmers of ability in his last two starts where he has at least shown something, making ground both times before fading out of things, but needs a lot more here and will be of more interest once handicapped.
Improved on the flat for Andrew Balding last year, winning events at Bath and Chester (both around a mile and a half, good and good to firm) and bought by current connections for 50,000gns in October. Hasn't shown much yet, but did a little better last time (fading after front running) and will win races once the ground quickens up. Needs this for a handicap mark, and heavy ground a major negative today.
Similar profile to Man Look, as he was an improver throughout the flat season for Richard Hannon, finishing third in a good quality handicap at Haydock in August, and there's been clear ability shown in four hurdles starts so far, although seemed to take a step backwards at Exeter last time. Ground again has to be a question (all best Flat form on good) and is one for handicaps rather than today, you feel.
Showed nothing in first three starts but did a little better last time, staying on through beaten horses to finish eighth to River Wylde at Ludlow. That needs improving on to get involved here, however, but it does at least show he may be going the right way.
Related to Group 1 winner Intense Focus and this one looked to have a bright future ahead of him when winning a Gowran maiden on the flat back in 2015 (was with Jim Bolger at the time). Not so good since, however, and addition of cheekpieces last time did nothing to halt the slide. Interesting recruit to hurdles but like a few here, heavy ground could well be against him. One to watch for handicaps down the line.
Useful on the flat in Ireland for John Joseph Murphy last season and has carried that ability over to hurdles, performing well on both starts to date. A goos fourth at Wetherby was followed up by an excellent second to easy winner Long Call at Hereford (in heavy ground), traveling well and only finding the Irish raider too good at the finish. No issues with ground, is in form, and has a leading chance here.
Forecasts
Quids In (15/8), Broughtons Rhythm (9/4), Putting Green (9/2), Spin Point (8/1), Cervin (12/1), Man Look (16/1), Lickpenny Larry (20/1), Sound The Bugle (66/1)
An interesting contest, as it should thrown up winners for the future, but the likes of Putting Green , Man Look and Spin Point all want better ground than they will get today. It leaves the door open for QUIDS IN, who has done little wrong in two starts and ran well when second to Long Call at Hereford. With that one running well at Ludlow earlier in the week, it gives the form a solid look. Broughtons Rhythm is another that would prefer better ground, but may well get in the places here.
1. Quids In
2. Putting Green
3. Broughtons Rhythm
