Went close to winning in this sphere on his second attempt at Carlisle in October and didn't run too badly in a better race at Cheltenham next time. Was not shaping as though he would improve on that when falling as favourite at Ascot last time, however, and not one to get too heavily involved with just yet.
Connections clearly think plenty of him after they sent him on from a promising Haydock bumper run straight into Grade One company in the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown earlier in the month. Tremendous run there on his hurdling debut to finish fourth, just ten lengths adrift of the rising star Finian's Oscar. A repeat of that would make him very difficult to beat here.
Steps out of bumpers and into this sphere for the first time and provided he can jump then there was a fair bit of encouragement at Uttoxeter last time. This step up in trip kooks very much a positive.
Looked plenty green enough on his introduction to hurdles at Chepstow last time, where the bottomless ground may not have helped his cause. Will know more about the game today and improvement is anticpated.
Has made the frame three times over fences, though somewhat unusual move to switch him for this hurdling debut at this age and others make more appeal.
68-rated Flat campaigner who made the frame in a modest Market Rasen hurdles event last summer. Has youth on his side and receives plenty of weight, though not too difficult to oppose.
Fergal O'Brien's GLOBAL STAGE raced a tremendous race when pitched in at elite level, particularly considering that it was his hurdling debut. With nothing else of that quality on show today and a step up in trip likely to be to his benefit, his trainer looks to have found him a good opportunity to break his duck. Ballyarthur looks to be the obvious danger, while we expect to see more from both Smoking Dixie and Midnight Merlot.
