Racing betting tips: Wednesday October 21
1pt win Kool Kid in the 13:10 Worcester at 13/2 (General, min 11/2)
1pt win Docteur Romeo in the 17:10 Worcester at 4/1 (Bet365, min 3/1)
0.5pts e.w Metamouse in the 17:20 Newmarket at 16/1 (⅕ odds 1,2,3,4,5 General, min 14/1)
13:10 Worcester - Fred & Mercy Rimell Memorial Handicap Chase 2m½f
KOOL KID has plenty of potential for better over fences this year and should be ready to go first time up.
He’d always looked the type to do better over the bigger obstacles and so it proved at Plumpton back in the spring, Kool Kid running out a ready length and a quarter winner from Park Annonciade, who went on to score at Huntingdon on his next start. The handicapper put Kool Kid up 5lb for that but based on the form on the second, that doesn’t look anywhere near enough, and with trip and ground ideal, he can make a winning start to his season.
13:40 Worcester - Manby Bowdler “Chasing Excellence” Beginners Chase 2m4f
Klimt Madrik got a mention in sister column Away From The Spotlight on Monday as one I’m very much looking forward to seeing this week, and I’m hoping he’s good enough to take what looks a fascinating beginners chase (on paper at least) first time up.
A very useful novice hurdler last year, finishing up with a very respectable eighth in the Turners at the Festival, he’s got plenty of size about him and looks every inch a chaser. He’ll get further than this in time but this looks a good start point for the year and his form just looks a little stronger than that of Scorpio Rising. Bill Joyce would be the fly in the ointment if Jonjo & AJ can ever get him back to what we thought he might be but after some dreadful efforts last year, it can only be a watching brief at present.
17:10 Worcester - CopyBet Overnight Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Hurdle 2m4f
This time last year Nicky Martin was making hay (2-2 in October, 3-6 in November and 2-3 in December, a remarkable little set of results) and although she’s yet to hit those heights this time around, the two she’s run this month have both run to form and we reckon she’s about to have a winner or two again.
Her DOCTEUR ROMEO hasn’t shown a lot in four starts so far, but is bred to be better than a mark of just 79 and the handicapper has actually assessed him about right on what he’s done so far, rather than factor in improvement to come. There was a bit of promise on his final start of last season when fifth at Taunton, and it’s worth bearing in mind Jimmy Frost got Warfleet, seventeen lengths behind the Doctuer in sixth that day, to win a little handicap off 78 later in the season, which again just adds more credence to his opening mark of 79 looking more than fair. Unexposed and ought to improve this year.
15:35 Newmarket - British Stallion Studs EBF Future Stayers Nursery 1m2f
Heavy rain this morning/afternoon will make this a particular test of stamina. Lots Road has already won on easy ground over 1m1f, beating Under Arrest by six lengths at Goodwood on nursery bow and he can shrug off a rise in the weights as his stamina is tested further. By Too Darn Hot out of a mare who stayed 1½m well and has already produced a useful sort in Lord Melbourne, a multiple winner at up to 1½m who revels in the mud, Lots Road should not be fazed by conditions and strikes us as the sort to improve bundles as his stamina is drawn out further.
17:20 Newmarket - Copybet Overnight BOG Nursery 7f
High draws have dominated this contest in recent years with the three highest stalls filling the first three spots 12 months ago and three of the first four places the year before, so we expect the same to happen here, especially with the ground turning softer.
METAMOUSE looks to have reached his limit at first glance, but not only has he proven form on soft ground, winning at Chester in June, but he’s shaped better than the result in a couple of nurseries and has been eased in the weight as a result. He’s only beaten one rival in those two starts, which may not sound encouraging, but he’s not beaten far on either occasion and looked a serious threat at Doncaster last time before failing to stay a mile. Back a furlong in trip now, and with stall 16 of 16 a fine draw, he’s expected to outrun big odds.
