York review: Zaaki wins Sky Bet & Symphony Group Strensall Stakes

A round-up of the rest of the action from Ebor day at York as Zaaki won the Strensall and Aligator Alley gobbled up his rivals.

Strensall success for Zaaki

Zaaki and Ryan Moore battled to victory in the opening Sky Bet & Symphony Group Strensall Stakes at York.

Wissahickon was sent off as the even-money favourite as he looked to give Frankie Dettori a flying start to the day - and the bookmakers a headache or two.

However he was beating a retreat over a furlong out as the 7/2 winner went to the front.

He had to be brave as the three-year-olds Bangkok (7/1) and Space Traveller loomed large but was always doing enough to win by a neck and half-a-length.

Moore said: "He showed enough ability as a three-year-old last year. He's had the wind operation and has been in great form all year. His last run over seven at Goodwood, he was drawn wide and it was just a disaster.

"It was longer today. It suited him better and he has beaten some good horses. The pace was a bit slower and they built it up in the straight and kept quickening up."

Alligator bites late for O'Brien

Joseph O'Brien's Alligator Alley (11/8 favourite) won the Listed Roses Stakes in the style of a very smart two-year-old, while 6/4 market leader Forest Of Dean took the Sky Bet Handicap for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.

The concluding Sky Bet Apprentice Handicap went the way of Que Amoro (9/1) for local trainer Michael Dods and jockey Phil Dennis.
