The heritage handicap sponsored by Sky Bet on day two of the Ebor Festival at York later this month will be run as the Sir Kevin Sinfield 7 In 7 Grand Finale Handicap.
It's to raise awareness of the Leeds Rhinos legend's seventh and final annual challenge to raise awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) community.
7 in 7: The Grand Finale will see the 45-year-old and his team complete an ultra-marathon every day for seven days, starting on Sunday 27 September at the home of Rugby League World Club Champions Hull KR and visiting each of the home grounds of the 12 British-based Super League clubs before their final stop at Old Trafford ahead of the Grand Final on Saturday October 3rd..
Since the first annual challenge in 2020, Sinfield and his team have raised over £11 million for the MND community, inspired by the death of his close friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who died of the disease in 2024.
The work of the MND Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Darby Rimmer Foundation, MND Scotland and the Irish MND Association will again be supported by the challenge.
Sinfield said of the York race being renamed: “It is a fantastic gesture to dedicate such a prestigious race at the Ebor meeting to promote the 7 in 7 Grand Finale challenge. The city of York holds so many special memories for the 7 in 7 team from a number of challenges over the last six years and we are delighted to be returning on the second day of this years challenge at the end of September. Any chance to show our support for the MND community and raise awareness is wonderful and I am looking forward to joining everyone on the day."
