Roger Charlton is adopting a patient approach with impressive Cesarewitch winner Withhold by waiting for the Stobart Rail & Civils Northumberland Plate on June 30.
The five-year-old landed a big gamble at Newmarket last autumn but has not been seen since.
Raised 12lb for his Cesarewitch romp, Charlton had entered him for Thursday's Henry II Stakes at Sandown, but will instead keep his powder dry until the end of next month.
"We're going to wait for the Northumberland Plate," said Charlton on At The Races.
"The Ascot Gold Cup is not on the agenda. I think he'd need to take a quantum leap to figure in the Gold Cup.
"He's rated 99 so we're going for a handicap next and we'll see how he goes after that."
