Wissahickon heading towards Betway Winter Derby at Lingfield on Saturday

Wissahickon will face a maximum of 10 rivals in the Betway Winter Derby at Lingfield.

John Gosden's charge posted a hugely impressive performance in winning last month's trial for this 10-furlong event on the bridle, despite having endured a troubled passage in the race.

He beat the Michael Appleby-trained Big Country by three-quarters of a length that day - with stablemate Court House back in third - and both of those are in contention again, along with fourth-placed Chiefofchiefs.

Last year's winner Master The World will try to defend his crown for David Elsworth on Saturday - while Hunting Horn, who has been placed in Graded company in America, could represent Aidan O'Brien.

Breden, Goring, Hathal, Matterhorn and Pactolus round out the 11-strong list for the Group Three prize.

Pactolus has won his last two starts for Stuart Williams but the Newmarket trainer admits the field appears to be playing for place money if Wissahickon turns up.

He said: "Pactolus will hopefully run in the Winter Derby and he is very well in himself. You would have to hope Wissahickon treads on a stone this week as everyone else looks as though they are playing for second or third.

"He has been an absolute star for us, but it makes it difficult in handicaps off 104. There aren't too many options for him and we made the entry, so we might as well take our chance.

"He will be running off a career-high mark at the age of eight, which is pretty amazing, and he is so versatile - he can go from the front or from the back.

"If you take Wissahickon out, there is not much between the rest of us, so we will do our best and probably head on to Good Friday afterwards."
