Connections of Winx celebrate with the Turnbull Stakes trophy

Aussie superstar Winx powers to 21st consecutive victory and is cut to 1/3 by Sky Bet for an historic Cox Plate victory

Australian superstar Winx notched up her 21st consecutive victory in style as she powered home in the Group One Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

The six-year-old was making her first start at the Melbourne track and she travelled well throughout the 10-furlong contest in the hands of Hugh Bowman.

Ex-British runner Ventura Storm was leading the way at the top of the straight, but when Bowman gave the signal, Winx pushed on to win by an effortless six and a half lengths.

Winning trainer Chris Waller said: "She's a brilliant horse, whatever you ask her to do she does. She makes us all look great.

"It's just great that the public embrace her, not just here at Flemington but back home (in Sydney). She never disappoints."

Bowman was delighted with the manner of Winx's success as the mare had been made to hard work for victory on her last couple of starts.

"It was pretty special, no surprise, believe it or not," he told www.smh.com.au.

"I am very pleased with how she has settled in down here. I know she did work well the other day, but she always does. What's impressed me is how settled she is down here. I have said it all week.

"She was back to herself today, she was very unenthusiastic last start, for some reason or other, maybe she just had a bit of a day where she didn't want to do it, but she still did it in style."
