Hayler Turner coming out of retirement to return to race riding

Hayley Turner has confirmed her intention to make a return to full-time race-riding later this year.

Britain's most successful female Flat jockey officially retired from the saddle at the end of the 2015 turf season and established a media career with At The Races and ITV Racing.

However, she has also made several fleeting returns to riding and last summer was tempted to try her hand across the Channel after the French authorities announced the controversial measure of a 4.4lb advantage for horses ridden by women.

Speaking on ITV Racing's The Opening Show, Turner said: "I am coming out of retirement - again!

"I've decided to put my TV career on hold and I'm going to get my boots out again.

"I'm going to spend most of my time in France this year, but I'm going to be dipping in and out of the UK as well.

"I'm taking my comeback very seriously and I've packed myself off to Florida. I'm riding out for Christophe Clement and rode out six lots this morning.

"I'm managing to keep fit and I'll be back in the middle of March to get the ball rolling."

Turner is currently serving a three-month suspension handed to her by the disciplinary panel of the British Horseracing Authority after the opening of an internet betting account left her in breach of the rules governing betting by jockeys.

Joint champion apprentice in 2005, Turner was the first woman to ride 100 winners in a year and is a three-time winner at Group One level.
