Timeform provide an overview of the key things to note from around the tracks on Sunday.
Big Mojo stands out at the weights
There are only five runners for the FBD Hotels And Resorts Phoenix Sprint Stakes (15:25) and it is the Mick Appleby-trained Big Mojo who stands out on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.
He hasn’t quite been at his best in three starts this season, but he has some excuses, having to shoulder a Group 1 penalty on his return in the Minster Stakes at York, not quite suited by the drop to five furlongs in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot, and isolated on the near side in the July Cup last time.
The form of his runner-up effort in the July Cup and win in the Sprint Cup at Haydock last season very much stands out in this field, though, and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back to his best now faced with lesser opposition – he’s 3lb clear of his rivals on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.
Don’t underestimate Celeron
Sun Goddess heads the betting and is Timeform top-rated in the Keenland Phoenix Stakes (16:00), but in Celeron she faces a well-regarded colt who has looked very good winning both of his starts over this course and distance.
He looked a good prospect when making a winning debut at this course and was undone by being drawn on the wrong side when down the field in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot on his second start.
Celeron made no mistake in proving himself a smart juvenile in the Railway Stakes last time, though, ridden more prominently than he was at Royal Ascot and really impressing with how strong he was at the finish. There should be plenty more to come from him and it is encouraging that Oisin Murphy retains the ride.
Crimson Road handicapped to win again
Crimson Road managed to win a couple of times for Simon & Ed Crisford as a three-year-old, but he didn’t show much for Susan Corbett last season.
As a result, he had fallen down the weights, and he seems to have been invigorated by a change of scenery, building on recent promise for this yard when resuming winning ways at Chepstow last month.
That was a comfortable success, travelling well and just pushed out to maintain his advantage in the closing stages, and a subsequent 3lb rise in the weights almost certainly underestimates him in the Capital Windscreens Supports Chepstow Centenary Celebrations Handicap (17:01) – he has the Horse In Focus Flag and is also 3lb clear on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.
