Robert Edwards has made a good start to training career
Robert Edwards only had his first runner in May, but he’s made a good start to his career, operating at a 21% strike rate. His first runner was We Ride At Dawn and she became his third winner at Sandown three weeks ago and she can follow up in the Chapel Down Apprentice Handicap (15:00).
She had three runs for Dominic Ffrench Davis last year and has shown improved form in handicaps this season since stepping up in trip, building on previous promise when opening her account in good style.
That was just an ordinary handicap, but she looked a class apart from her rivals, even if she was well position and did get a trouble-free run, and this race doesn’t look any deeper.
We Ride At Dawn remains less exposed than most she’ll meet at this level and is one to keep on the right side following a 5lb rise in the weights.
Evenfall stands out on ratings
The Betvictor Watch Weekend Winners EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (16:45) looks a looks a potentially hot race, with five of the six runners all last-time-out winners, but Evenfall created an excellent impression when making a winning debut at Yarmouth recently, and looks one to follow.
She was all the rage in the betting, starting the odds-on favourite, and she proved very professional in a strongly-run race, travelling fluently and quickening up nicely to put the race to bed in the final furlong.
The timefigure gives the visual performance extra substance, while the runner-up won well at Musselburgh next time to strengthen the form further. Evenfall looks potentially smart and is expected to prove herself just that in this stronger race.
Chantelle can reverse form with Trio
Trio got the better of Chantelle over this course and distance a couple of weeks ago, but the latter is weighted to reverse the form in the Betfred ‘Double Delight’ handicap (17:13).
She became a rare first-time-out two-year-old winner at Wolverhampton at the end of last year and had no problem defying a penalty over the same course and distance next time, still looking inexperienced
Chantelle lost her unbeaten record on handicap debut at Southwell, but conceded first run on the winner, and shaped like a horse who has been handed a fair opening mark.
She also shaped well after five months off on her turf debut behind Trio last time, seemingly not as well suited by the test of speed, but she should be able to track front-runner Loblolly now, and it would be no surprise were she to strip fitter for that outing, either.
