The Dortmund St Leger is contested today at 3.30 where last year’s facile winner Near England attempts to defend his crown. There were no UK raiders last year, though Jane Chapple-Hyam sneaks her good ground Haydock winner Stamdford Raffles into this year’s renewal. Sunday’s list of UK raiders abroad last week included an 18/1 winner (Lady Macapa) for Clive Cox alongside other winners at Evens* & 2/5*.
Two more raiders head overseas today. Stuart Williams has declared Stella Surprise in a Listed event at 3.45 in Hanover, whilst Marco Botti saddles Capla Temptress in Woodbine tonight in the Grade 1 Canadian event at 10.24.
Two meetings later in the week (based on five year study periods) have worked out reasonably well for punters, especially given the time of year when changing ground can effect results, alongside the fact that trainers are desperate to impress before the winter morning emerge relating to owners remaining loyal to their respective yards.

Roger Charlton secured a 13/2 double on last year’s corresponding card with four potential runners this year at the time of writing.
Henry Candy posted a 75/1 double in 2013, with two inmates pencilled in at the Esher venue this week.
PONTEFRACT - THURSDAY:
39 races – 16 winning favourites – 33/39 winners scored at a top price of 10/1

Michael Appleby has saddled three winners in as many (recent) years, though Michael has runners engaged at Ayr on Thursday as opposed to this meeting.
Marcus Tregoning (76/1 double back in 2012) is potentially represented however, whereby his three potential runners catch the eye.
